The Studebaker Estate, Rye Beach sits oceanside at 2595 Ocean Boulevard and is one of the most iconic mansions on the New Hampshire Seacoast. Tate & Foss Sotheby's International Realty was proud to represent the seller of this quintessential property this past year.
This pristine landmark is bounded to its South by the historic Farragut Hotel parcel that spanned more than 15 acres on the oceanfront and was one of the original Seacoast grand resorts first established in the late 1800s. The Studebaker Estate, Rye Beach was built by automobile executive, Clement Studebaker Jr., in 1917 and fashioned in such a way to take advantage of the vast views it encompasses. Indeed, you can see the Gulf of Maine to the North, the Isle of Shoals to the east and front of the mansion, and Cape Ann Massachusetts to the south. While the property sits seaside on Ocean Boulevard, the land surrounding the mansion is wooded and secluded at its northerly and westerly borders, providing a private and peaceful haven for its residents.
There is no question that the Studebaker Estate, Rye Beach is a hallmark of our Seacoast for all who tour the shoreline, and we were thrilled to learn so much about its remarkable history as we came to know the seller and her home. Stories of the estate largely spotlight the extravagant parties held in its early days, when guests arrived in ideal Studebaker fashion, lining the drive with early models of the classic automobile. During our several visits to the estate, we could almost see and hear the voices of past guests, adorned with swirling gowns, top hats, and tails, enjoying the oceanfront galas.
The truly elegant architecture of the Studebaker Estate, Rye Beach is woven throughout its 20 rooms and accented by features such as the magnificent marble fireplace in the main salon and the vast reception hall at its formal entry. The extraordinary mantelpiece was originally commissioned in 1907 and came to the Studebaker Estate directly from the Guggenheim during wealthy tycoon Harry Beckwith's ownership of the estate in the 1930s and '40s.
Some of our seller's best memories during her 32 years of living at the Studebaker Estate, Rye Beach were of entertaining family and friends in the salon and adjoining solarium overlooking the lush front lawn and captivating view of the Atlantic Ocean.
"We had many Easter egg hunts with the children and grandchildren on the front lawn, usually followed by a game of croquet. I will always treasure those memories."
We were thrilled to be able to match the elegant property with the perfect buyer this year, who will undoubtedly bring new life to this extraordinary estate, creating yet another chapter in its already rich history.
