The NH Seacoast area is well known for its beautiful beaches and coastal towns like Rye, Hampton and Portsmouth. What you may not know is that we also have world-class golf courses and country clubs! Whether you wish to join a private club or enjoy a public course, there is something for every golfer.
Here are a few top picks for the ultimate Seacoast golfing experience, in no particular order...we love them all!
Private Courses
1. Wentworth By The Sea Country Club
Rye NH's Wentworth By The Sea Country Club features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Donald Ross. Its lush fairways offer spectacular ocean views in an exclusive, private club setting. You can tour the golf course here. And if you're in the market for a new home, it doesn't get better than the Wentworth by the Sea Lifestyle!
Tate & Foss Sales Associate, Mary Beth Hixon has been an avid golfer for over 25 years and served as President of the Women's Golf Association. Here's what she has to say about Wentworth By The Sea Country Club:
"There are plenty of nice courses on the Seacoast, but this one is in my backyard...literally! It is a genuine Scottish links-style golf course which presents challenges for all levels of players, while providing some of the most magnificent ocean vistas in Rye. The layout forces you to make smart golf shots to small greens...the undulating fairways and bunkers rarely leave you with a level stance...and several demanding water hazards test your precision throughout the course. In addition to its meticulously manicured golf course, the club also provides indoor and outdoor tennis courts, paddle tennis courts, pickle ball courts, a fitness facility and an Olympic-size swimming pool. Definitely something for everyone in the family!"
2. The Golf Club of New England
Sited on 450 scenic acres in Stratham, The Golf Club of New England is one of the Seacoast area's most exclusive, private clubs. Its Arnold Palmer-designed championship golf course is over 7,600 yards long. After Palmer's passing in 2016, a club owner described his influence in bringing the course to life:
"Arnold believed in fair golf, but not easy golf. So the fairways are wide, the greens are good size, there's a good number of sand traps, and there's very subtle breaks to all the greens, so you have to putt them very precisely."
3. Abenaqui Country Club
Founded in 1903, Abenaqui Country Club has a rich history and has seen many talented golfers come out of the club. The course is spread across 100 acres of coastal fields and marshlands in beautiful Rye Beach NH.
Tate & Foss Sales Associate Sean Fellows, a former PGA Professional at exclusive country clubs from Cape Cod MA to the NH Seacoast and White Mountains, had this to say about Abenaqui:
"I am a bit biased, but my favorite golf course on the Seacoast is Abenaqui Country Club. The highlight is how consistent the conditions are at the course. Every single year, it is the most well-maintained course in the Seacoast, and I would even argue in the state of New Hampshire. If you love playing with groups and in events, Abenaqui has an active schedule throughout the season. There are always groups willing to accommodate new players, which makes for a very welcoming environment. If you aren’t necessarily looking to play golf, the seasonal tennis facilities are excellent and the year-round 1903 Lounge always provides a great dining experience."
4. Portsmouth Country Club
Member-owned and founded in 1904, Portsmouth Country Club is sited in Greenland NH and offers stunning vistas of tidal Great Bay. Its 18-hole Robert Trent Jones-designed course is consistently ranked as one of the best in New England. Click here to view the layout!

Designed and built by Wayne Stiles and Phil Wogan, the course features well-maintained greens and fairways with fantastic views. The club also has a driving range and short game practice areas. 8. Sagamore-Hampton Golf Club
