Newfields

Newfields NH is a small town of about 1,800 residents, located along the Squamscott River, which flows into Great Bay and the Piscataqua River out to Portsmouth Harbor. It has become a popular bedroom community to Exeter, Portsmouth and Manchester, offering a peaceful country lifestyle. The people of Newfields are dedicated to maintaining their town’s quiet charm...they like it just the way it is! The town center is an idyllic village composed of a historic country store, town hall, public library, post office, two churches and a mix of antique Colonial and Federal-style homes overlooking the waterfront where the town landing, shipyard and mercantile businesses once thrived. One of the town's oldest establishments, now known as Squamscott Beverages, still bottles soft drinks here. Locals enjoy easy access for many recreational activities including boating from the town boat launch and biking along the Rockingham Recreational Rail Trail. The property tax rate (2024: $15.79) is similar to adjacent towns. Newfields is part of the Exeter Region Cooperative School District (SAU 16), where children benefit from the combined resources of its six participating towns. Students attend Newfields Elementary School (Kindergarten thru grade five), Cooperative Middle School (grades six through eight) and Exeter High School (grades nine through twelve).
