Newington
Newington NH is well known for its major commercial (Fox Run Mall) and industrial (Pease International Tradeport) zones, yet its best kept secret is a beautiful residential district that is tucked out of sight. Sweeping water views of Little Bay and Great Bay, open fields and historic homes are all part of the attraction to this special place. Newington is home to about 1,000 residents who value its small town feel, unique amenities and low property tax rate (2024: $10.18). If you live here, a resident sticker grants you access to Fox Point (a 120-acre waterfront park!), public outdoor tennis courts and Carter’s Rocks Park. And there are several hiking trails for exploring the 1,100 acre Great Bay Wildlife Refuge. Newington is part of School Administrative Unit (SAU) 50, and educates its students from kindergarten through sixth grade at the Newington Public School. Children in grades seven and eight attend Portsmouth Middle School and those in grades nine through twelve attend Portsmouth High School.
