Stratham

Stratham NH is the second largest town in the greater Exeter area and home to about 7,500 residents. It is primarily a bedroom community for those working in Portsmouth and Manchester who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Much of the town consists of sprawling farmland, slowly transformed into residential subdivisions as the community has continued to grow. While its neighborhoods are quiet, Stratham has a thriving commercial zone along Route 33, which connects Exeter with Portsmouth. Residents enjoy the convenience of shopping for essentials just a few minutes from their homes. And for recreation, they love Stratham Hill...200-acre area of private and public land which includes Stratham Hill Park and Gordon Barker Town Forest with 10 miles of excellent trails for biking and hiking. Every summer, the park comes alive with the Stratham Fair, a classic New England festival with live music, 4-H events (such as cattle shows, tractor pulls, dog shows and forestry demonstrations), baking competitions, clown and puppet shows, and amusement park and pony rides. The property tax rate (2024: $20.91) offers good value, including top-notch education. Stratham is part of School Administrative Unit (SAU) 16; students attend Stratham Memorial School (Kindergarten through grade five), Cooperative Middle School (grades six through eight) and Exeter High School (grades nine through twelve).
